We knew Sam was proposing to Sogol in November of 2013, we just hadn't had met them yet. Sogol's sister, and good friend of ours, the talented Delbarr Moradi asked to borrow a long lens of ours so she and her husband could sneakily capture the moment of Sogol's surprise proposal. Sam had Sogol on a wild goose chase of a scavenger hunt that day telling her it was all for her birthday. Delbarr introduced us to Sam and Sogol in February of 2015. What an honor. Being named one of the top wedding photographers by Martha Stewart Weddings in 2014, it was such a blessing to know that she would trust us to photograph her own sisters wedding.
"Sogol and Sam...
I wanted to get the convo started between you and Joanne & Jon. Now that you have your date set, it's the perfect time to get the photo convo started too! I'm excited for the possibility of having you guys work with them. Arash and I love them, they are good friends and so much fun to work with.
Joanne and Jon... take it away...
delbarr" We met online with the two, and immediately fell in love with their energy and kindness. The rest is history. We spent about 3 days in HI getting to know their families. They were no different from Sam and Sogol, all were so welcoming and kind to us throughout our time on Oahu, making us feel like family.
The entire wedding day at Loulu Palm Estate was perfect, kind of like the SPAM musubi and ahi poke diet I was on while there. We worked alongside Frances of Charmed Events Group who made the day run smoother than the shaved ice at the Wailoa Store in Honolulu (which we did happen to visit with the two and their bridal party. Tasty stuff, go check it out if you happen to be in Oahu and can't make it to Matsumoto's!).
Congratulations again to you Sam + Sogol, and thank you for trusting in our vision and storytelling. If we had the chance to do it again, Joanne and I wouldn't hesitate to do it in a heartbeat.
We also want to thank the team over at Utterly Engaged for honoring our work in their latest publication. You can purchase a copy here.
