a day in the life of joannathan

HI EVERYONE WELCOME TO OUR BLOG. OUR NAMES ARE JONATHAN AND JOANNE, BEST KNOWN AS JOANNATHAN. WE'RE PHOTOGRAPHERS BASED OUT IN SAN JOSE, CA.

WE LOVE CAPTURING LIFE AS IT HAPPENS, WHETHER ITS YOUR FAMILY SESSION OR YOUR WEDDING, WE'D LOVE TO BE PART OF IT.

Often times in life and in everything we do we find ourselves becoming stale over time.  Maybe its because life has started to cloud our creativities, maybe its because the day to day life has gotten a little redundant.   Regardless of what it is, the only way to to become fresh again is to be re inspired.  Not too long ago Jonathan and I both had the opportunity to set up a small group for a 5 on 2 private workshop with Tanja Lippert and Tia Reagan.  We can’t speak enough great things about these two.  Maybe its because 3 years ago when Jonathan and I decided to make the huge jump of starting this business she was many of the photographers we had emailed during our early years and one of the few who emailed back letting us know “we were on the right path.”  That of course made us so happy to hear from someone who inspired me through her photographs.

Jonathan and I are really awesome at bringing out the fun, silliness, and laughter in our photos, but there’s also that part of us who wants to bring out the fire, passion, and intimate side that each couple has.   With that said we’re looking forward to a lot of new things for 2011.  We’re looking forward to our new brand identity which I cannot wait to launch, our new way we’re approaching our engagement sessions and family sessions, and we’re looking forward to just giving more of us to our clients.

Here are some of the photos that Jonathan and I have taken during this workshop.  Once again thank you Tanja and Tia for providing amazing models and the awesome hair, makeup, and wardrobe for these three.

I also wanted to give a quick HELLO to those who attended.  Quincy of Rock the Image, who’s a good friend of Jonathan and myself; Kira Bautista, a Facebook friend turned friend, and Noreen, a client of mine in the salon and aspiring photographer.  Thank you guys for taking the time out of your busy lives to enjoy two days of inspiration without you this class wouldn’t be possible!

I leave this blog post with this simple phrase: TURTLE FIRE LIPS

We’re Jonathan + Joanne.  Better yet known to some as JOANNATHAN.

Here are some random things you should know about us before you decide to continue to stay on our blog or possibly book us for your wedding day!

We’re a husband + wife team.

We’re parents of two gorgeous daughters.

We love Disneyland.

We laugh, A LOT.

We’re weird (that’s an understatement).

WE LOVE TARGET!

We get emotional at father/daughter dances.  (Thank god our cameras are larger than our faces and hide our tear filled eyes, NO JOKE.)

We like to think of our “style” as a romantic comedy.  (PSSH what is style!?)

We randomly sing and dance in our cars, if you see us on the road doing so, laugh AT us or WITH us, we’re probably doing it too.

We can’t get enough of Treatbot Ice Cream/Karaoke Truck. Eastside Horchata is a bomb diggity flavor.

We shoot with heavy cameras with the name Nikon on them.

And last but not least:

We love what we do.

We love to have fun with what we do.

We love the clients who love having fun with us while we have fun doing what we love to do.

we are

This past weekend we had the awesome opportunity to shoot a wedding in Yosemite.  It was our first destination wedding and just an FYI party people, we’re totally willing to travel.

I’ve never been to Yosemite and Jonathan hasn’t been since he was little.  The views were absolutely breathtaking.  Back in high school in photography class, my teacher had always talked about Ansel Adams.  Since then I’ve always wanted to see Yosemite and I was so happy to have not only seen it, but shoot a wedding there and spend a little get away time with my partner in crime for our anniversary.  We had a blast, my only gripe is that we were only there for 2 days.  The next time we go, for sure will bring our girls and get away for at least a week.

It’s been two years since Jonathan and I took the plunge and decided to tie the knot with one another and I will honestly say it hasn’t been easy, but its definitely been well worth all the tears, laughter, frustration, and joy.  I love shooting weddings with him because we get to spend time together doing what we love and we’re such love saps.  GO TEAM LOVE!  I swear every single wedding we do helps to keep our marriage alive.  Over the weekend the bride’s dad said something super awesome:  ”You marry the one you love and you learn to love the one you married.”  It’s so true.  Over time in a relationship I feel we change roles of who we are, but nonetheless you’re partners in life; walking hand in hand.  As long as we can remember there, we’ll always be in love.

To celebrate our anniversary we spent the weekend at the lovely Tenaya Lodge, located on the south entrance of Yosemite.  It was gorgeous!  The staff was truly awesome.  They gave us a bottle of wine for our anniversary!  When we got back into civilization and reality on Monday, one of our friends made us some rocking treats.  Two of our friends Nicole + Jenn started this rad bakery called Cakeree Bakery. The little cakepops and crunch rolls are truly addicting.  Like Nicole promised, life altering.  For some yummy goodness at your next party or for just some goodness hit them up, you won’t be let down.  The first thing Jon said when had stuffed his mouth was “Oh my God, Oh my God, Oh my God.”
